To be eligible the individual must meet the following criteria:

  • Be aged 16 or over and living in England
  • Be employed in a school-based role that supports teaching and learning
  • Hold GCSE Grade C/4 or above in maths and English (or equivalent)

This programme is ideal for experienced teaching assistants who wish to specialise further, take on additional responsibility in the classroom, and support pupils with specific needs such as SEND, social and emotional development, or curriculum-focused learning.

The apprenticeship is fully funded through the Apprenticeship Levy, which means there is no direct cost to the learner. Non-levy paying employers can also benefit from government co-funding, which covers 95% of the cost.

Assessment takes place through an End-Point Assessment (EPA), where you demonstrate your competence across all areas of the standard.

On completion, apprentices are well prepared for more advanced roles such as Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), learning mentor, or to progress into teacher training.
